Thrive Pet Healthcare Tuesday announced the opening of an urgent care clinic at 757 E. 20^th Ave. in downtown Denver.

Thrive Pet Healthcare’s new urgent care clinic is addressing the need for timely veterinary care for injuries or illnesses that are not severe enough to require emergency treatment but cause enough pain or discomfort that can’t wait to see a primary veterinarian.

Previously a primary care practice, the clinic transitioned to urgent care last week to address the critical need in the downtown Denver community for veterinary care that complements pet owners’ trusted primary care and alleviates the case overload of emergency hospitals.

Modeled after human urgent care, the Denver urgent care clinic provides outpatient, same-day services for sick pets that require prompt access to a veterinarian, but do not have critical or life-threatening conditions that require surgery or hospitalization. Clinic hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays.

“Pets don’t always get sick or injured at a time when it’s convenient to see your primary care veterinarian and some conditions don’t warrant a visit to an ER,” said Thrive Pet Healthcare Downtown Denver Urgent Care’s Acting Practice Manager Lara Freeman. “Our walk-in urgent care clinic in Denver bridges the gap between your family veterinarian and an emergency hospital by providing timely outpatient care that is often more affordable compared to an ER visit.”

Some examples of pet behaviors or symptoms that may benefit from urgent care include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, eye or ear infections, fever, allergic reactions, itching, lumps, limping, minor wounds or injuries, or the ingestion of minimal toxins or a foreign object.

The clinic is staffed by Colorado State University graduate Dr. Susan Ross. Dr Ross completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Missouri and has worked in general practice, animal shelter medicine and even owned her own veterinary hospital in Missouri before leaving the Ozark Mountains for the Colorado mountains. Her professional interests include urgent care, canine sports medicine, senior pet care and dermatology.

Although urgent care is a walk-in service, pet owners are encouraged to check the availability of the urgent care team by calling the clinic at 720-782-8327.
