TV personalities Sue Perkins and Anna Richardson are supporting homeless cat owners by signing up as ambassadors for StreetVet.

StreetVet provide free vet care to more than 20 cats who are living with homeless owners across the UK, giving owners peace of mind that if their cat needs help, they can access it.

Anna, 49, and Sue, 48, pledged their support and plan to join the StreetVet volunteers on outreach checking over the cats and dogs they care for. 

 

Anna said: “This is such a privilege and I’m looking forward to going out on the streets and seeing the work StreetVet do. The fact that the vets give their time for free to treat the animals is just remarkable. There is still good in this world.”

Sue added: “Anna and I are delighted to have been named as ambassadors for this remarkable charity to ensure people who are homeless get the vital care their companion animals need. Just knowing that their pet is healthy is often a huge boost to the owner’s wellbeing.”

The charity was set up in 2016 by Jade Statt and Sam Joseph who recognised people living on the streets with their pets desperately needed help.

Their volunteers hold regular outreach clinics where cat owners can ensure their pets are vaccinated, have essential flea and worm treatment and their claws clipped.

Jade explained: “Their cats mean everything to them, but often homeless people aren’t able to take their pet to the vet and they don’t want to see them suffer in any way.

“They may not be able to afford treatment or fear that they may have their cat taken away, or simply be intimidated by the thought of going in a clinic.

 

“But as well as vet care, they need essentials like cat harnesses, litter trays, food, and in one case, we’ve provided a pet pram.

“If a cat we see needs an operation or procedure, we can arrange and fund this and we have a relationship with Cats Protection where they cover the cost of neutering and vaccinating any of the cats registered with StreetVet.”

The charity also helps homeless people who have found cat-friendly hostels and accommodation by giving owners the essentials they need to help settle in like beds, toys, scratching posts and food.
