A New Way to Combat Cat Allergies

As the weather gets colder and we spend more time indoors, we thought it worthwhile to mention a post we published last Fall called Cat Allergies: Nothing to Sneeze At where we talked about symptoms, causes and tips to prevent and lessen allergic incidents.

Recall, a cat allergy generally stems from a person’s particular sensitivity to cat dander – the skin cells that shed through the cat’s fur. This sensitivity to cat dander can range from minimal – resulting in coughing, watery eyes, sneezing, and itching – to severe – resulting in everything from swelling to shortness of breath.

In fact, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology estimates that 10 percent of people are allergic to household pets, with cat allergies being twice as common as dog allergies. They estimate that one in seven children between the ages of 6 to 19 prove to be allergic to cats.
