The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, the organizer of Canada’s National Animal Welfare Conference, would like to share some exciting news. Going forward, our organization will be known as Humane Canada, and we want you to be part of Canada’s collective commitment to animal welfare across the nation.

The well-being of animals is core to our values as Canadians, and it’s imperative that we come together as a nation to build a good reality for all animals, not just a better one. In standing together under the banner of Humane Canada, we each have the opportunity to own this mission together, to shape it and work as one across the country to ensure our ethics are reflected in the world around us.

If you love animals and believe they deserve respect and dignity, there’s a place for you in this work. It’s that simple. We don’t have to wait for others to make change. There is so much we can do together in our own neighbourhoods. Just imagine a Canada where every community is making the commitment to transform the lives of animals!

We’re at an important moment in our nation’s history: each day, we are more and more aware of the dangers and indignities facing animals in our country, and we desire change. From puppy mills to pit-bull bans, from dog management on First Nations to retail pet sale bylaws, we are more engaged with animal welfare as a country than we’ve ever been. Now is the right time to embrace the transformation that is possible when the whole nation is working together toward change. Because one plus one plus one adds up.

We are calling on each and every animal lover to join us and add your voice to the call for much-needed change for all of Canada’s animals. You don’t need to be an activist to better our world – regular people do amazing things every day. When we feel passionately enough about something, we use our tenacity, compassion, grit, creativity and strength to transform what’s happening around us. Let’s channel that belief in a better Canada, which we all have within us, to step onto a shared path of change for the animals. We need to unite and act as one collective voice to create the paradigm shift we want and animals need.

This is an exciting time for our growing community as we move ahead with a new name and bolder vision. Humane Canada will give us the power and focus we will all need to get the job done. As the representative of the nation’s largest animal welfare community, Humane Canada’s strong relationships with federal and provincial governments, industry and animal welfare decision-makers across the country will allow us to spearhead the change that Canadians want to see.

How can you join in on this work? Sign up to be part of our nation of animal lovers and animal welfare professionals from across Canada. We’ll keep you up-to-date on key animal welfare issues, news and action alerts. Also, follow us on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-the-minute info on everything you need to know about animal welfare in Canada. Together, let’s evolve animal care and welfare across the nation!
